This layer of compact clay in and around the wall yeilded no significant finds and it seems to continue deeper in the stratigraphy. So, we are abandoning this area for now. It might be a good idea to return in the last week and quickly go deeper to find the wall on the western end. We removed several tiles and river stones from this collapse area. - JM, GE
