Function of pit unclear - trash dump? But why put a dump in center of entrance to the workshop? Consider with the cut and dump of material found against foundation of back wall (17018=20018) in the same room last season. Could these be related to abandonment of 1st occupation phase before re-use as a blacksmith's workshop?
