SU 15047 is a large concentration of lime or mortar at the southern, bottom extent of the cut 15046 and extending slightly upwards and over the tiles 15048. A find of two large pieces of metal slag (bulk find) in SU 15044 at the base of the cut 15046 and under the black, ashy burn layer SU 15045 suggests that SU 15047 is lime intended to be fuel for the fire, characterizing 15046 as a cut for metal smelting.
