Material assemblage (freq bone, pottery, some charcoal) seem more characteristic of an occupation level or a possible levelling layer to raise the level of the floor and even it out before paving it with 16031.

2016-07-22 Marzuolo Archaeologist

16034 is a sub-floor layer under 16031. This SU is comprised of grayish light brown soil with frequent pebble and stone inclusions. The stones and pebbles are likely remnants of SU 16031. In the interest of time, we bisected 16034 along its north-south axis. High levels of ceramic and bone were recovered while excavating this SU. Once bisected, this layer continued down 4-5 cm. At the bottom of 16034, the soil became darker with a higher sand content. (KD, HU, CWF)
