Although no clear cut, hammerscale filled a shallow depression where anvil block likely located. Depression may have been made in workshop floor to install block (probably wood).

2019-07-16 Rhodora Vennarucci

Small lens of hammerscale on top of occupation level 17191. Likely caused by hammering metal objects on an anvil to remove crust of oxidized iron scales that form after object removed from nearby forge. This indicates an activity area at the threshold.
