Ceramics has largely suggested a single use-phase in the workshop, but is it possible that 17189 and 17191 (below it) represent two use-levels?

2019-07-15 Rhodora Vennarucci

Interface bellow collapse and covering occupation levels or the top, heavily disturbed level of occupation - the workshops last use level. Contamination risk in SW due to tree root cavities. Most likely equal to 17176, which is similar in compaction and composition, but with less charcoal, which may result from differing levels of exposure to heat. Also, 17176 was under RPP backfill, exposed to sun, trampled, etc. in 2012, making contamination risk higher.

Detail of SU 17189; during post-excavation season, this was identified as a possible forge bottom constructed with clay; it was not given its own SU number during excavation
