This deposit accumulated over earthen floor of workshop 17201.
Occupation level supported by presence of frequent ceramic and metal objects. Most likely equals 17144=17159 to the NE and 17098 to the North. Two clear lenses of hammerscale (17094 and 17093=17095) indicate activity areas with anvils near entrance. Possible forge (17196) associated with concentration of plano-convex slag found near wall just inside room. Augustan coin and 1st c ceramics consistent with occupation levels in quads.
